Scam-checked remote jobs

Remote job scams are rising: fake recruiters, "training fees", interviews over Telegram or WhatsApp, and pay that is too good to be true. Every listing on Remote1stJobs gets an automatic scam check. Jobs that pass every check show a Scam-checked badge; anything suspicious is marked Caution.

The checks every job gets

  1. Apply link on the employer domain or a known ATS: The application goes to the company's own careers site or a recognised applicant tracking system such as Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, SmartRecruiters, Teamtailor or Personio, never to a chat app or a lookalike domain.
  2. No fee, payment or chat-app wording: We look for upfront fees, "training" or "equipment" payments, gift cards, wire transfers, cheque deposits, crypto wallets and interviews on Telegram or WhatsApp, the most common signs of recruitment fraud.
  3. Salary sanity: When a salary is listed, the range must be realistic: minimum below maximum, no extreme spreads and no implausible figures.
  4. Named employer with a real company presence: The role is posted by a named company with its own website or an employer account on a hiring system.

Frequently asked questions

What does Scam-checked mean?

The listing passed every automatic check: the apply link goes to the employer's own domain or a known hiring system, the text has no fee, payment or Telegram/WhatsApp wording, the salary looks realistic, and the employer is named with a real company presence. Hover or tap the badge to see the checks it passed.

Does Scam-checked guarantee a job is genuine?

No automatic check can guarantee that. It removes the most common scam patterns. Always apply through the official link and never pay anything to apply.

What does Caution mean?

At least one check failed, for example the text mentions a fee or a chat-app interview, or the salary looks unrealistic. Read the listing carefully before you apply.

Why do some jobs have no badge?

If we cannot confirm the apply link belongs to the employer or a known hiring system, we show no badge rather than guess.

How do I spot a remote job scam?

Red flags include being asked to pay for training or equipment, interviews only by chat app, offers without an interview, personal email addresses, and pay far above the market rate.

How do I report a suspicious job?

Email us via the contact page with the job link. In the UK you can also report recruitment fraud to Report Fraud; in the US, to the FTC.
